About Us
The Mead Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been formed in support of students and staff of the Mead School District. Such community-funded organizations that serve public school districts are rare — so rare, in fact, that the newly established MEF is the first of its kind in Spokane County and one of only two in the Inland Northwest. The mission of the foundation is to foster excellence in learning for all students of the Mead School District through private fundraising and the establishment of a permanent endowment.
There are foundations for universities, both public and private — why not public school districts? With the support of alumni, local business, citizens of our community, and everyday moms and dads, we can build solid resources for our children's education. These resources will support education beyond the basics — above and beyond what currently is available to our children.
Dr. Tom Rockefeller is a strong supporter of the Mead Education Foundation, and has past experience working with foundations. He is extremely enthused by the dedication of the Mead Foundation's board of directors — and their focus on serving students and teachers. He believes that the Foundation fosters the financial and moral support in the Mead School District that is lacking in many schools today. "The benefits of the resources provided by the Mead Education Foundation far exceed the dollars and cents...it connects students, teachers, parents, and community members while providing the best for our children" says Dr. Rockefeller.
Dr. Rockefeller would like to see the Foundation continue its positive work in providing effective resources to the classroom. It is his hope that he can help the foundation continue to grow and involve more of the Mead community each year for the benefit of Mead students. He believes that the partnership being established between the Foundation and District will only produce positive, productive experiences for all involved!
Dr. Rockefeller urges all parents, teachers, and community members to consider being involved in the Mead Education Foundation, either through contributions or volunteering time.
The Mead Education Foundation's primary goals are to promote the use of technology as an educational tool to enhance learning, promote activities that encourage students to plan for education or training after high school, and to advance the professional development of teachers and administrators. The foundation awards grants to staff members of the district who have created highly interesting and innovative approaches to learning in their classrooms and school buildings.
Teachers interested in applying for a grant can learn more about the application process and download forms in this website. Go to our grants page to learn about the requirements and scope of the application process.
The organization's initial grants were awarded in the second semester of 2005. Go to the grant winners page to see and hear details about the projects funded by the generous support of our partners and corporate sponsors.
